Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to the most common questions about ScanSnap AI.

General

ScanSnap AI is an AI-powered mobile app that helps you identify virtually any object by taking a photo. Simply point your camera at an object, snap a picture, and our advanced AI will tell you what it is along with detailed information like estimated value, age, materials, history, and more.

ScanSnap AI can identify objects across 20+ categories including antiques, electronics, plants, animals, artwork, food, vehicles, jewelry, tools, musical instruments, landmarks, and much more. Our AI is constantly learning and improving its recognition capabilities.

Our AI provides confidence scores with each identification to help you understand how certain it is. While we strive for high accuracy, results should be used for informational and educational purposes. For valuable items, professional appraisals are still recommended.

Yes, ScanSnap AI requires an internet connection to process scans and deliver AI-powered results. Your photos are securely transmitted to our servers for analysis. You can view your previously saved scan history offline.

Scanning

For best results:

  • Ensure good lighting - natural light works best
  • Hold the camera steady to avoid blur
  • Fill the frame with the object
  • Capture the most distinctive angle or features
  • Avoid reflections or glare on shiny objects
  • Use Smart Object Selection to isolate specific items

Smart Object Selection (available on iOS 17+) lets you isolate a specific object in your photo before scanning. After taking a photo, you can tap on the object you want to identify, and the AI will focus on just that item rather than the entire image. This is especially useful when photographing objects in cluttered environments.

Free users get 5 scans per day. Your daily scan count resets at midnight in your local time zone. Premium subscribers get unlimited scans with no daily limits.
